Preparing Transition Age Youth with Autism for College and Employment

Find out more about two upcoming trainings specifically for preparing transition age youth with autism for college and employment.

This training will cover definitions of neurodiversity, as well as the challenges, and opportunities regarding college and employment of students with Autism. SAP, the global leader in enterprise software, will discuss trends among high profile employers and the creation of successful workforce programs. We will also offer an overview on training modules informed by the work at SAP. These materials provide practical approaches to preparing students for college and employment. Presenters will share the specifics of the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act as well as the role the Office for Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) plays in Secondary Transition, Early Reach, and Pre-Employment Transition Services.

Objectives:

Participants will be able to:
1.) Define practical strategies for preparing students for college or employment
2.) Utilize lessons learned which can be used by guidance counselors, secondary transition coordinators and teachers
3.) Identify trends among high profile employers including the participation of industry representatives who have created successful workforce programs.
4.) Develop a template for the training program through its work with SAP, the global leader in enterprise software.
5.) Identify collaborations among schools, employers, and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) which support the preparation of students for college and employment.

Target Audience:
High school principals, special education administrators, superintendents, guidance counselors, high school general education (including AP & STEM) teachers, speech/ language pathologists, OVR staff, Autism and Transition TaC

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individualĀ“s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
