Summary The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the mission of SpArc Philadelphia and its family of organizations, SpArc Services and The Arc of Philadelphia by performing a variety of tasks in the repair and maintenance of the building, machinery and grounds supporting a lean, sanitary, hazardous free environment for the safety and comfort of all who utilize the facility.

 

Position Responsibilities

  1. Effectively complete maintenance activities to assure the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.  Recommend areas of improvement to supervisor and CEO.
  2. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  3. Respond to emergencies.
  4. Install, inspect, repair and maintain the electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
  5. Complete general repairs such as painting, patching walls, security hardware, and landscaping.
  6. Prepare for special events including returning the building to its regular operations.  May need to adjust time schedule according to scheduled events and activities.
  7. Immediately alert supervisor to safety and fire hazards; follow safety and health precautions to restore the building to safe conditions.
  8. Ensure equipment is in proper working order; provides preventive maintenance on equipment.  Operates equipment, as necessary.
  9. Support consumers, staff, and visitors during fire drills and emergency evacuations, ensure procedures are followed.
  10. Perform various clean up assignments including snow removal or storm damage.
  11. Participate in training/development opportunities.

 

Qualifications

  1. High School or GED preferred with at least two (2) years prior related experience in general maintenance.
  2. Clear criminal and child abuse history, medical and drug screen.
  3. Effectively communicate; follow verbal and written directions.
  4. Demonstrates the organization's core competencies and solid customer service skills.
  5. Ability to respond to emergencies and proactively addresses issues.
  6. Knowledge of the tools, equipment and safety standards associated with building maintenance.
  7. Requires self-direction, independence, good time management and attention to detail.
  8. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously and multi-task.
  9. Ability to work well under pressure and flexibility to respond to changing priorities.

 

Physical Environment/Working Conditions

Indoor and outdoor environment; subject to bending, pushing, lifting, climbing and moving heavy objects. Work with hazardous materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
